The following is a series of Management / Operations design guidelines that we try to implement into every project we take:
Sustainable Sites:
- Provide motivation and education for staff in environmental management and cultural heritage issues.
- Use recycled post-consumer products wherever possible.
- Minimize waste generation; purchase products which contain minimal packaging; encourage efficiency in use of resources; encourage bulk purchasing.
- Implement effective recycling and waste management practices, including composting.
- Avoid the use of harmful chemicals and pesticides in maintenance, cleaning and landscaping operations.
- Implement water conservation systems in cleaning and laundry operations.
- Minimize noise pollution and disturbance.
- Ensure that no merchandise is used or sold that includes rare or threatened species.
- Encourage the promotion of certified ‘ecolabel’ products; preferably those sourced locally.
- Advise guests about the need to protect local, rare and threatened species and heritage.
- Provide educational information, activities, and programs to encourage a sense of learning in the guest in regards to the natural environment, local culture and heritage.
- Encourage safe and appropriate interaction with wildlife and minimize negative impacts on wildlife habitats.
- Establish conservancy programs to aid protection of natural habitats.
Cultural / Economic:
- Use local contractors and suppliers wherever possible.
- Allow public access wherever possible and ensure connectivity to community services and facilities.
- Provide meaningful employment and training for local people, including management positions.
- Purchase and market local products and services. Provide investments to local community infrastructure.
- Ensure that all local cultural sensitivities have been considered and respected.
- Ensure that all cultural information and interpretation is accurate.
- Provide educational opportunities for local communities.
