San Jorge Plaza

An abandoned corner lot used as a dump in front of a major avenue with residential and commercial buildings was rescued by the municipality of San Juan. Being among those buildings that San Jorge Children Hospital, park/plaza scheme was developed. As a corner site with a lot of pedestrian traffic, a diagonal park path was chosen as a configuration to invite pedestrians to walk in and activate the space, while operating also as a corner short-cut. A small peaceful plaza with sculpture-like playground structures designed following this configuration. Small fragmented walls and benches bring the idea of the father, mother, and son "three bears" family concept.
